Bartercard Blog: Customer Service Experience


More often than not, you will hear people talking about customer service wherever people are and more often than not, they are negative. 


Indeed, it is not every day that a company would gain positive comments regarding the company’s good service despite several positive experiences from the customers. As they say, people will always talk about negative things but they are quiet when it is positive. 

Sprout Social Index proved this when they released their research on the customer service call-out culture in the third quarter of 2017 called “Call-Out Culture: People, Brands, and the Social Media Power Struggle”. It was revealed that 92 percent of customers will call a customer service department on their poor service or performance while a certain percentage tend to not provide positive feedback when it is due. 

In today’s blog, I will talk about how a former skeptic of Bartercard gave credit to the excellent customer service she received from the company as well as the services Bartercard company provided. 

On customer service and other services provided 

Before Katrina Urry became a Bartercard member five years ago, she was approached by a Bartercard representative at an expo. The Bartercard representative introduced the concept of Bartercard and the opportunities in store for her business which is Bundaberg Debt Collections, a debt collection business that she established in 2006. 

The idea for a debt collecting business occurred to her when she saw the necessity for business-owners in her community to have debtor management due to the lack of it and in order to recover their hard-earned money without too much hassle. Since then, she has been striving to assist her fellow business-owners in their debt collection activities.

The early phase of the Bundaberg Debt Collection Services was an apprehensive point as she recalls there were certain times the challenges had no solution. When she learned about Bartercard the first time, although skeptical, she decided out to test the benefits. It took a bit of time before the benefits manifested due to the stagnancy of her account but ever since Fred Naluz, account manager or trade coordinator working for Bartercard became her trade coordinator, she never stopped using her account. 

“Fred was the first to actually help me use my trade dollars and I am really happy with how he’s handling my account. You know, I speak to a lot of people but Fred is just so lovely and polite every time. He really gets things done for me.”

Fred helped her with a couple of things she requires for her business, mainly promotions. When asked about what is the best thing other members can do to maximise the use of their account, she jokingly said, “Get a Fred!”


When Katrina was not able to attend the Christmas Shop fest organized by Bartercard, he gifted her hampers from the Bartercard network which she was thankful for. 

The following were some parts of the interview stating her overall experience as a Bartercard member. 

What are the challenges that your business had that Bartercard was able to provide a solution for?
There are a lot of challenges, really. Like there was no end to them and it seems like there’s no solution to these problems but yeah, since Bartercard, some of the problems minimized like managing the cash flow when my business has vacant moments. 

How many clients do you provide your debt collection service within the Bartercard network?
Currently, we provide our debt collection services to seven companies like, we provide services to a magazine and a handyman business. It’s all so lovely because what Bartercard did was bring me some clients. 

Do you have any specific trading strategy that you use?
No, I don’t have. [laughs] But, I have a trade coordinator, Fred, and he has always assisted me in where I spend my trade dollars on. 

What are the products and services that you acquired from Bartercard?
Oh, a lot. But the most recent one is the best one. Advertising? The advertising that Bartercard does is really lovely. It’s so helpful. I don’t know what they did aside from it but it was amazing. It’s the reason why I got more clients. It’s really working well and it means a lot to me.

What other ways do you use your trade dollars for?
Nothing much, really. But there is always something that I find on Bartercard where I can use my trade dollars on. 

Are there other things that you gained from Bartercard aside from the clients and managing your cash flow?
I love the knowledge I gain every time I am on Bartercard. Like, when the financial standards are too high and they, like, say, “Oh, I don’t have a lot of cash”, I get to ask them to pay half cash and half contra which is their product(?). Bartercard allows them to fully pay what is due if they’re tight on cash and they also allow me to get back what I have put out. 

Katrina’s experience was not only a testament to how effective the benefits of Bartercard would work for the business-owners but its customer service also surely guarantees that the members will be taken care of.
